Escape from the Castle of If (Constraints and Creativity in Mathematics and Fiction) .
A few weeks ago, I was very honoured to be one of the speakers at International Science Day in Turku, Finland, which brought together a wide variety of speakers from all over the world — ranging from cosmologists quantum physicists, mathematical jugglers, designers, data visualisation visionaries and mathemusicians to science fiction writers. The conference program was leisurely enough to allow us to have a variety of great discussions while enjoying Turku sunshine and wandering through Ruissalo. It was a great way to start the summer.
I cannot recommend the talks by the ISD speakers highly enough if you are at all interested in science — they should all be up shortly. In the meantime, you can listen to Kari Enqvist explaining why things are the way they are as well as me talking about constraints in mathematics and fiction.
