Finnconman

I’ll be attending Finncon — the largest Finnish science fiction convention — from 18th to 20th August. I’ve somehow been shanghaied to participate in various panels and things, and here’s my schedule:

Saturday

11.00 Välttämätön SF-kirjasto (In Finnish only.) (J. Pekka Mäkelä, Liisa Rantalaiho, Marko Kivelä, Mari Saario, Hannu Rajaniemi)

Asimov, Clarke ja Heinlein — Kolme Muinaista Suurta. Ketkä ovat nykyajan Kolme Suurta SF-kirjailijaa? Entä mitä kirjoja harrastajan kirjahyllystä soisi löytyvän näinä aikoina? Lukuvihjeitä kaikelle kansalle.

15.00 Is Ansible More Than Just an Anagram for Lesbian? (Cheryl Morgan, Hannu Rajaniemi, J. Pekka Mäkelä, Ahrvid Engholm)

Science fiction has invented some nifty concepts, but also used ideas thought out by some other brilliant minds. What are the best ones and what can we expect to see in the future?

Sunday

15.00 Writers’ Bloc (Andrew Ferguson, Hannu Rajaniemi)

Writers’ Bloc is a spoken word performance collective based in Edinburgh, Scotland. And they’re here…

17.00 On Writing (Hannu Rajaniemi)

There are things that only writers know. And we’re about to find out - at least some of those things.

You can find the full program here.

I’ll also be attending the TransVision conference on Thursday and generally hanging around Helsinki for a few days. Hope to see you there!
