A few writing-related tidbits that I’ve neglected to report:
Year’s Best SF 11 has been out for a while now, featuring — among many excellent stories — my Deus Ex Homine and Ken McLeod’s A Case for Consilience, both from Nova Scotia.
The latest issue of the Portti magazine includes my story Elegia nuorelle hirvelle (Elegy for a young Elk, a story about a failed poet, an alcoholic bear, an intelligent city, and some elk — I may get around to translating it at some point.)
Last Thursday, I went to the illustrious Alan Campbell’s book launch at the Waterstone’s in Edinburgh — I urge you to buy his excellent debut novel Scar Night at the earliest possibly opportunity. The shenanigans continued until late, with lots of cool people attending — you could have taken out most of the so-called Scottish SF movement with one well-placed bomb at the Traverse theatre bar. It was worth going just to see Hal Duncan astride a garishly painted cow.
I read “Elegy” and liked it very much! I think I found connections to “Deux ex Homine”, so are the stories situated in the same universe, same gods included?
Thanks — I’m glad you enjoyed it!
It’s indeed set in the same universe, a bit later in the timeline. I’ve been thinking about the setting quite a bit, and have a few more stories coming that take place in it.
Hooray!
Please translate Elegy sometime!
I just read Deus Ex Homine in SF11, and enjoyed it so much I went to Amazon to see if you had any novels available. Great universe, reminded me of the best elements of Morgan (Takeshi Kovacs novels), and Gibson, but unique in its own right. Good luck, hope to see a novel at some point (in the meantime I’ll check out Stross and your other recommendations).
Tetsuo,
Really glad you liked it — thanks! Hopefully, there will be some novels available in the near future…
Accelerando and Glasshouse are definitely worth checking out if this sort of thing is your bag of tea.
