Nova Scotia Takes Off

It’s been quiet again in this corner of the internets for a while, mostly because my Internet service provide has not really been providing during the past week: this actually boosted my productivity by about 50 percent and forced me to do some serious thesis work.

The bright note of this week is that Nova Scotia — an anthology of Scottish speculative fiction edited by Andrew Wilson and Neil Williamson — is going to hit the shops any minute now. Andrew showed me an advance copy last weekend, and it’s very pretty:

Can you guess what the cover image is? Hint: it’s not computer-generated. Another hint: the theme of the anthology is Scotland seen from an unusual perspective. (Click on the picture for a larger version.)

I urge you to spend your hard-earned £9.99 at Amazon, directly via Mercat Press or at a well-stocked bookshop on this fine volume: it contains material by people ranging from Scottish Poet Laureate Edwin Morgan to tartan SF powerhouses Ken McLeod and Charlie Stross, plus many other local writers. And I’ve got a story there too

There will be an official launch in Edinburgh on August 11th at Blackwell’s, from 6.30pm onwards. There’s also an event at the Book Festival, and a reading at the Worldcon in Glasgow. Hope to see you there!
